Fun facts Did you know.... Theodore's favorite fish was a catfish?

Theodore's Childhood As a child Theodore was very weak & sick. When all the other children played he created his own world in his mind. He looked up to heroes of Americas past. His illness made him even more determend. His Father built him his own gym, he practiced every day. His parents thought he would do better physically in nature. So they sent him to live in the woods. When he came back he was looking for adventure.

Theodore's many different jobs Theodore had many jobs growing up. He was a Legislator, a Police Commissiner, an Assisant secretary of the Navy, Governer of New York, (Vice) President of the U.S.A.

Why was Theodore famous? Theodore won the election of 1904 by a landslide. He was the youngest president for that time at age 42. He helped free Panama from the Cuban government, in order to build the Panama canal making war and trade easier for everyone in the U.S.A. He was the only person riding a horse making him an easy target in the charge on Kettle hill & San Juan in the battle of San Juan Cuba. The press described him as a hero. In his life he recieved both the Nobel Peace prize & the the Medal of Honor. He was a man of war and peace.

How many miles is the Panama Canal? The Panama Canal was 50 miles long

Why did America build the Canal? We built the canal because we wanted faster trade and to make it easier to get our soldiers and Naval vessels into war.

What were the short term consequences of building the Panama Canal? They had a war to get the land to build the Canal. Which led many deaths from not only war but from yellow fever and other deadly diseases.

How might the course of history been different if nobody had built the Panama Canal? The Cuban Government would have won the war and we would have to wait longer for Naval vessels and trade to arrive.
